Clivio finishes 11th in race dominated by weather conditions

Clivio finished race 2 at Istanbul Park in 11th position after an eventful 23 lap race on an initially very wet track. In spite of a determined race with lots of overtaking Clivio was however unable to secure any points and still lies in 12th place in the championship with 14 points.

The second race of the GP2 weekend in Istanbul became a lottery when rain fell five minutes before the start. The start was delayed to allow teams to readjust to a wet set-up and change tyres as rain continued to fall. Clivio concentrated on keeping on track and avoiding the chaos of cars sliding over the slippery surface. Mid-race the track was almost dry and at the end of lap 13 Clivio came in for a pit stop to change to dry tyres. Clivio pulled up from 19th at the start to cross the line in 11th place.

Clivio:
"The race started as quite a nightmare, there was so much rain on the track the cars were skidding all over the place and it wasn't enough to try and stay on track, I had to be really vigilant to watch out for all the other cars sliding all over the place.

On the third lap Mondini spun right in front of me and I must have missed him by only a couple of centimetres. I went off into the grass and had to avoid a big Bridgestone banner but managed to rejoin the track with no damage.

As the race went on the conditions settled down. It stopped raining and I was able to start chasing the cars ahead. I made steady progress and had quite a long battle with Fauzy which lasted a few laps. After I overtook him I went after Pla and caught him on Turn 6.

By mid race the track was pretty dry and so the team called me in to change to dry tyres. The car felt good after that and I was able to go for some really fast laps. The gap between me and the front of the field was too big to aim for points so I just pushed as much as I could to pull up as high as possible. On the last lap I overtook Viso for 11th.

Overall I think this is a great and challenging track and I've enjoyed the weekend here, but I'm not satisfied that I haven't brought home any points."
