The qualification session for the GP2 Series at the Turkish Grand Prix, took place today at Istanbul Park. The drivers of Barwa Addax Team, Sergio Perez and Giedo van der Garde finished in fourth and sixth position respectively.
Both drivers of the Spanish team had previously shown that they were among the quickest in the free practice session this morning finishing 2nd and 6th. In the qualification they were fighting it out for the leading places from the beginning and ended the session 4th and 6th.
Ten minutes before the end of the qualification all the drivers fitted their set of new tyres in an attempt to improve on their best time. Giedo was the first to better his lap times and he moved up to third at one point, including the fastest 3rd sector until that moment. Sergio went one step better and managed to climb to second position. After the last frenetic few minutes the Mexican driver will start tomorrow's first race from 4th place on the starting grid, whilst his Dutch team mate will begin from 6th. Both drivers are well placed as Sergio Perez defends his top spot in the overall driver's championship Giedo van der Garde tries to improve on his eighth overall and Barwa Addax Team consolidate their 2nd place in the team classification.
The 1st race gets under way at 15.40 hrs local time, tomorrow, Saturday 29th. It will be competed for over 32 laps of the 5,338 meters Istanbul Speed Park circuit, covering a total distance of 171 kilometers.
