Sam Bird holds onto joint first place in the Drivers’ Championship and Marcus Ericsson takes his first podium

The weekend got off to a great start with Sam qualifying 2nd and Marcus 7th. Team Principal Paul Jackson said ‘Sam ran a race simulation in free practice, which should pay off in tomorrow's race and Marcus concentrated on car set up options. The team are quite happy with their grid positions and optimistic about their race pace tomorrow. There is sure to be a lot of tyre degradation and driving style and strategy will play a big part in the result. However, both Sam and Marcus feel they are in good shape and hope to continue with the good pace they had in Turkey’.

The feature race on Saturday came with two safety car periods resulting in a slightly shortened race, however this made tyre degradation less critical than expected, resulting in another podium for Sam Bird who came 3rd and points for Marcus Ericsson who came 5th leaving them in a good position for Sunday's Sprint race.

Sunday saw Marcus starting from 4th and Sam 6th on the grid and with 26 laps to do on one set of tyres it looked like being a race of attrition and tactics and with grip disappearing in the closing laps anything might happen. However, it resulted in a double points finish for the team, with Marcus taking 3rd giving him his first podium of the year and Sam 5th giving him a joint lead in the drivers’ championship.

A good weekend overall and now we look forward to the challenge of Monaco.
