It was a character building day for Great Britain's Adam Carroll after a good race result and pole position for tomorrow's race hit the wall, along with his Racing Engineering car. Until today, Imola had been a circuit of good memories for the 23 year old, from Portadown in Northern Ireland after winning the Sunday race last year in front of a packed F1 crowd. This year it was problems with over steer and rear tyres that let him down throughout the race.

Then on lap 27 he lost control of the back end of the car, spinning before hitting the wall.

"I was on the power at the 2nd chicane and before I knew it I had spun. I tried to bring it back round but just ran out of road and hit the wall. There is quite a bit of damage to the car " said Carroll. "The rear tyres went away quite quickly and my car still wasn't that comfortable but I shouldn't have hit the wall. Seventh would have been good considering..."

After making a good start from 7th on the grid, Adam held position throughout most of the race despite safety cars, pits stops and other crashes.

Tomorrow things will be even tougher as he starts from 17th on the grid and with just over 12 hours until the sprint race, the mechanics have a real race against time to get the car ready.
