It was a tough race for Direxiv Motorsport drivers Olivier Pla, Hiroki Yoshimoto and Clivio Piccione at Hungaroring. DPR racer Pla made a great start to run fifth early on, before dropping back during the pit stops. But he battled back to claim seventh and a front row place for tomorrow's race. Yoshimoto (BCN) could not engage first gear at the start and lost a lap while his car was worked on. A late change of tyres allowed him to set fastest lap and take two valuable points. Piccione (Durango) was set for a top six finish when a broken exhaust caused an hydraulic leak and locked the car in gear.
Olivier Pla, David Price Racing: 7th
"Before the pitstop the car had so much oversteer it was almost undriveable. We lost some time in the pits with a stuck wheel nut, but after that the car was great. I put a good move on Piquet to take eighth and was right on the back on Viso at the finish. I think we will have another strong race tomorrow."
Hiroki Yoshimoto, BCN Competicion: 13th
"I just couldn't get the car into first at the start, so that ruined my race. We decided to pit late and run some laps with new tyres and low fuel and go for fastest lap, which was the best we could do."
Clivio Piccione, Durango Racing Team: retired
"I made a great start and it was all going well, but on the lap I was due to come into the pits the gearbox just seized and that was it. It's a real pity because the car was fast enough for top four or five and we had the right strategy."
Misato Haga, President and CEO, Direxiv Motorsport:
"Whilst the drivers expected more from this race, the most important thing is to bring home points. Olivier earned two valuable points for his 7th place as did Hiro for the fastest lap. Clivio was once again unable to show his potential which is a shame."
