Excellent 5th position for Borja Garcia in qualifying!
After too many races where the Racing Engineering driver wasn't able to show his real potential, Borja Garcia recorded the 5th time in qualifying at the Hockenheimring. This excellent result supplies Borja with all possibilities for both races of the weekend.
After Friday's qualifying results, Racing Engineering is looking forward to Saturday afternoon's 180km race at the Hockenheimring. Borja Garcia, who so far this season has not been able to show his real potential, marked the 5th best time, setting him up well for the races. Starting qualifying on a set of new tyres, the Spaniard couldn't really take advantage of them because of too much traffic on the track and thus keeping him from marking a fast lap time. After mounting the second set of new tyres, th Borja was able to push and was rewarded with an excellent 5 position. Already content with the set up of his car during the second race at Silverstone, together with his team, he continued developing the car and seems to have found the set up that goes best with his driving style.
Feeling confident with his car and starting from a very promising position, Borja's, as well as Racing Engineering's goal, is to finish Saturday's race in the points and therefore obtain a good starting position for the Sunday race, where the first eight start in reversed order.
Concerning Neel Jani, the expectations couldn't be met. The Swiss Racing Engineering driver couldn't repeat his usually very consistent performance during the meetings so far and therefore has to start Saturday's race from an unusual 14th position on the grid. Given Neel's fighter qualities, the Racing Engineering driver will push hard in the race and try to make his way to 8th position, allowing him to start Sunday's race from pole position.
After the qualifying session, Neel said, "Well, this wasn't what we hoped for. At the moment I really don't understand why I am there. Clearly it's not where we belong, as we have showed several times before. Now we have to find out that happened".
A motivated Borja Garcia announced, "I couldn't take advantage of my first set of tyres due to the amount of traffic. With the second set things turned out better and I was able to lower my lap time although I was still slowed down by other cars. I am very content with my car and think that it is better than what I had in Silverstone. If tomorrow I have no technical problems, I should be able to finish in the points".
Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon commented, "All our hard work to find the right set up for Borja is paying off. We still have a little bit to go, but we'll get there since we're on the right path. As for Neel, that's not his normal position, so I expect he will have a good race and finish in the points, allowing him to start from the front on Sunday".
