Pla takes second victory for DPR

Olivier Pla cruised to his second lights to flag victory in as many rounds of the GP2 Series today after driving a faultless race at Hockenheim, Germany.

The Frenchman, who admitted he had been somewhat lucky to have inherited the 8th place finish in yesterday's race, profited from that luck and drove superbly from the moment the lights went out at the start of the race. He extended his lead over second place finisher Giorgio Pantano throughout the race to a massive 6.46s by the chequered flag.

The result moves both the team and Olivier Pla up in the Championship tables.

A thrilled Pla said after the race: "It's really good – I'm very happy. Yesterday we were quick but unlucky and finally today we had the luck. Today was an easy win, there was no pressure and I could increase the gap every lap. The car was really consistent from the beginning to end and I had no tyre problems at all."

Team Principal David Price was equally pleased for his French driver. "This has made up for the disappointment of yesterday. Perhaps it was meant to be, us not finishing on podium yesterday, as it gave us a shot at victory today. Olivier did a fantastic job."

Ryan Sharp made the most of the first lap and got up to 9th from his starting position on the grid but then struggled with his brakes in the early stages of the race so couldn't defend his position. His car had some understeer, which improved as the race progressed, but no other problems and he finished in 13th place.
