Stunning recovery in Silverstone
10/07/2011 - Stefano Coletti produced another stunning deed in his first season in GP2 Series, after an unpredictable qualifying on Saturday due to intermittent rain that relegated the young talent from Monaco to the twenty-first place of the grid.
In the Main Race, started under safety car regime due to the heavily wet circuit, Stefano Coletti recovered some positions at first and then, according to strategy shared with Trident Racing Team's pit wall, decided to pit early to wear slick tyres despite the track being still humid and treacherous in some places. The decision turned out to be a good one and allowed Coletti to score a stunning recover taking him all the way up to the seventh place under the chequered flag that was also worth the first row of the second race of the weekend.
The outcome of the Feature Race was spoiled instead by an inconvenience at the start: when lights went off Coletti was dangerously stranded on his starting spot and the intervention of the pit crew allowed him to start his race a lap down from the last position. His reaction was remarkable anyway as he set the fastest lap of the race (1'43.262).
Stefano Coletti: "This weekend has been full of ups and downs: difficult in qualifying, thrilling in the Main Race and unlucky in the Feature Race. Performance-wise the fastest lap of the race confirms that we are on the same level of the frontrunners but our competitiveness has been only partially converted into points; we are motivated to change this trend in the final part of the season".
Coletti is currently ninth in classification with 16 points, just eight shy the fifth place. The GP2 Main Series will be back on track next 24 July at Nurburgring (Germany).
