Stefano Coletti press release
Stefano Coletti back to GP2 Series in Barcelona
53 days after the terrible crash causing him the compression fracture of two vertebrae and the cracking of a third one, Stefano Coletti will eventually be at the wheel of a GP2 Series car in occasion of the two forthcoming testing days in Barcelona (Spain) next 19 and 20 October.
On day one Stefano will get on track at the wheel of one of the two Dams cars, the French team reigning champion in 2011, while day two will be spent on the Dallara of Scuderia Coloni.
This comeback will be led carefully due to the importance of the fractures sustained that fortunately healed perfectly but forced the Monegasque to a period of inactivity followed by a specific training.
"We observed a period of absolute rest during the three weeks following the incident and then we started physiotherapy, first in the water at the Institute pool and then in the gym" said dr. Giancarlo Raffermi, the Monegasque orthopaedist of IM2S following daily Stafano's progress. "We carefully avoided the athlete's loss of muscle tone and physical strength. A complete recovery will need 2 o 3 more weeks of work but this test will allow us to check on the progress obtained so far".
"I cannot wait to be back at the wheel of the GP2 Dallara after such a long and difficult period. This is the first time (and hopefully the last) that I am forced to miss tests and races for so long and consequently I am counting the hours to my comeback. I know that this test will be conditioned by the fact that I have been on a restricted work schedule for more than a month, following the complete stop after the crash in Spa but I want to start working to be ready, if possible, for Abu Dhabi's race in November. I will test the two most winning cars of 2011 and this is an honour and an important privilege to me. I would like to thank once again all the people that have been close to me in this difficult period of my career".
