Stefano Coletti takes the victory in a thrilling Sprint Race in Budapest
Stunning performance in Budapest for Stefano Coletti who took the victory of a very difficult Sprint Race in the seventh round of the GP2 Main Series 2011.
Forced to start the race from the last row of the grid due to an unlucky Feature Race, the young Monegasque driving for Trident Racing Team bravely decided to wear slick tyres despite the track being heavily wet in several parts.
His gamble paid off a few laps after the start thanks also to the remarkable driving sensibility that allowed him to avoid errors, despite the low grip, and to progressively get closer to the times set by the fastest drivers on rain tyres. The safety car deployment afterwards voided all the gaps and several drivers decided to pit to switch to slick tyres. At the restart, Stefano kept on recovering and moved to the first position during lap fifteen.
Trident's pits confirmed to be perfect once again in the final stages, when the rain started to fall and therefore to shuffle cards again. The choice to wear again rain tyres turned out to be the right one and allowed Coletti to lead the race on his Dallara until the flag welcoming his third win of the season after those obtained in Abu Dhabi in the Asia Series and in Istanbul's race of the Main Series.
Stefano Coletti: "It has been an amazing race: I knew that in those conditions twists were behind the corner and I never stopped believing in a good result even in the initial stages when it was very difficult to stay on track with slick tyres. The pits guys, as the whole team, have been absolutely great and the credit for this win goes to them too: we have always been confident in our potential and we aimed to get that victory that slipped out of our hands in the latest rounds".
Coletti is currently tenth in the classification with 22 points, 13 shy the fourth place. The GP2 Main Series will be back on track next 28 August in Spa (Belgium).
