Rapax Nurburgring Race 2 Report

Nurburgring GP-Strecke

The Rapax Team completed today the 6th round of the 2011 GP2 Main Series at the Nurburgring. In the closing race of the series' German weekend, Leimer completed an awesome comeback in 8th after being forced to start from the back of the grid. The race itself proved really tricky due to the rain fallen right before the start, but Julian Leal did a good job too, as he finished in 9th without committing a single mistake. With two cars into the top-10, in a race where strategy played a major role, Rapax captured some encouraging results, especially considering the really bad starting spots for its drivers. The Italian squad's technical staff, as well as the drivers, won't have too much spare time available before the next round of 2011. Teams and drivers will be back on-track from the next Friday at the Hungarian Budapest venue.

"When you start in 26th place and you end up in 8th you can't be unhappy. And if we consider we started with wet conditions before switching to slicks after the pit-stop, that means we all did a great job. My start hasn't been brilliant, and I struggled a bit at the beginning. After the pit-stop, the overall pace proved great as confirmed by how we finished. I'm sorry for yesterday's penalty, and honestly I think that a 10-spot penalization would have been the right choice. Now I look forward though, and hope to do well at Budapest."

Julian Leal

"It's been a really tough race due to the track's conditions. After 5 laps the rain tires started were completely out, especially the front ones. When the team called me back to the pit-lane, for slicks, it all changed despite I struggled in the first few laps out. I'm happy with my race because today it was so easy to make mistakes and we saw a lot of contacts."
