Arden Nurburgring Race 1 Report

Nurburgring GP-Strecke

A Quiet Day At The Office...

Arden team-mates Josef Kral and Jolyon Palmer put in solid performances during this afternoon’s GP2 Series feature race at the Nürburgring, but yesterday’s qualifying woes left both drivers with too much to do.

The race was neutralised within half a lap of the start, after Kevin Mirocha (Ocean) and Pal Varhaug (DAMS) tangled at Turn Four. When action resumed at the end of lap three, Kral lay 20th and Palmer 21st. The duo swapped positions soon afterwards, then made early tyre stops in a bid to gain time on a clear track. That dropped them to 22nd and 23rd positions, with Kral ahead once more, and thereafter they had an uneventful time en route to finishing 19th and 20th respectively.

"I didn’t make a good start, I almost stalled, but didn’t lose too many places. Then I went wide into the first corner and was pushed wide again at Turn Four, which put me on the grass. I hit some debris in the process and that left me with a damaged turning vane. Even so, my pace was quite good up until the pit stop. After that I just focused on looking after my tyres, but our set-up was quite aggressive and they were starting to wear towards the end so I struggled a bit for grip. We just have to go through the data tonight see how we can improve tomorrow."

"My start was OK, but the first-lap incident delayed me and I dropped towards the back. I managed to pass Josef before the tyre change, but he jumped back ahead after his stop. I then had major tyre degradation, which obviously compromised my pace. It will be tough starting from 20th tomorrow, but I'll do the best I can."
