European F3 runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi will make step up to GP2, joining series newcomer Prema Racing.
Giovinazzi, having raced for Carlin for the past two seasons, finished second to Prema's Felix Rosenqvist in 2015 and then continued with the British squad in the GP2 post-season test at Yas Marina.
He was reportedly in contention for an Audi DTM drive, having substituted for the suspended Timo Scheider in Moscow last year, but was left out when the German manufacturer decided on an unchanged line-up for 2016.
However, the Italian managed to land a GP2 deal with the support of KFC Indonesia - the sponsors of his good friend and long-time teammate Sean Gelael - who have backed Giovinazzi for the entirety of his career in single-seaters.
Giovinazzi is the first driver signing of Prema's GP2 venture and the team is thought to have several options for the second seat, with Oliver Rowland and Pierre Gasly having been reportedly in the frame.
