Gasly tops first GP2 test of 2015

Red Bull junior Pierre Gasly topped the times on the opening day of GP2 testing in Abu Dhabi.

Gasly had a solid first day of work with his new DAMS team, going second fastest in the morning and quickest in the afternoon with a best time of 1:48.897.

Frenchman Gasly, moving to GP2 full time for 2015, finished less than a tenth of a second ahead of Campos Racing's Arthur Pic, with Raffaele Marciello down in third in his first outing as a Trident driver.

Teammate Rene Binder and Racing Engineering's Jordan King completed the top five on the opening day of work for GP2 teams in 2015.

Most teams focused on aero testing early in the morning, trying out the new-for-2015 DRS system.

American Alexander Rossi set the morning pace in his first outing with Racing Engineering, but all the top times were set in the afternoon.

The morning session was halted for half an hour for software adjustments, and later again when Marlon Stockinger stopped on track at Turn 5 before the lunch break.

In the afternoon, Julian Leal's Carlin car stopped at Turn 17, causing the third stoppage of the day.

Testing continues tomorrow.
