Gasly dethrones Sirotkin on Day 2 in Barcelona
Red Bull junior Pierre Gasly topped the timesheets on Day 2 of GP2 pre-season testing in Barcelona, demoting Day 1 pacesetter Sergey Sirotkin with a late lap.
Sirotkin set a 1m27.971s early in the morning session - at that point the best lap around Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for a Dallara GP2/11.
Just as on Wednesday, Gasly was second in that session but he managed to take almost three tenths off Sirotkin's time in the afternoon, with a 1m27.703s.
Racing Engineering teammates Jordan King and Norman Nato were third and fourth in the morning, close behind Gasly.
Raffaele Marciello completed the top five, two tenths up on sixth-placed Mitch Evans, the very driver Marciello replaced at Russian Time.
King was then runner-up in the afternoon, a full second down on Gasly's benchmark, and with Arthur Pic grabbing a late third ahead of newcomer Antonio Giovinazzi, who brought out one of the day's red flags, and Daniel de Jong.
Carlin, which has just announced it's bowed out of 3.5 to focus on GP2, had a strong day, with both newcomer Rene Binder and confirmed driver Marvin Kirchhofer in the top 10.
Status, which skipped Day 1, was 15th overall with Sergio Canamasas and 23rd with Meindert van Buuren.
