Durango - Paul Ricard, 3 October 2006
GP2 Series - First day of tests at Paul Ricard. Satisfaction for Durango A positive first test day for Durango and its drivers, Fairuz Fauzy and Marco Bonanomi, in the south of France.
Fauzy had already proved himself to be very competitive in the morning races and very quickly was amongst the top positions, clocking very similar times throughout. In the afternoon he was able to really make the most of the car made available to him by the team, and finished the day in overall 3rd position, despite the fact that his best lap was hindered by a red flag.
Bonanomi's debut was also very good and he quickly adapted to the GP2 car. His overall 12th position at the end of the day and a clocked time not to be disrepected after having ran 270 km, have proved the Italian driver's potential.
Fairuz Fauzy - time 1:14.931
I'm very happy. We were already competitive in the morning in spite of the fact that I and the team were still getting to know one another and adapting our respective working methods. We've worked consistently well and have made some minor adjustments to the set up in order to adapt the car to my driving style. I got along with the team pretty much straight away. I am satisfied with the time I clocked given that I ran it on the second tyre run and not immediately after having changed them- on the first run with new tyres I was hindered by other cars on the track and a red flag.
Marco Bonanomi - time 1:15.647
It wasn't easy for me as I was debuting in a high performance GP2 car and I'd never driven at Paul Ricard before. Considering these two important facts, I can now say that I'm quite satisfied with my first test day with GP2. I'm happy to be with Durango as I already knew the team. My engineer and I have made some minor adjustments to the set-up and I noticed the difference straight away and this helped me to gradually gain more confidence with the car. What struck me most was the difference in performance between the new and used tyres.
