DAMS retains Lynn, signs Latifi for 2016 GP2 campaign
Perennial GP2 frontrunner DAMS has announced its line-up for the 2016 championship, with Williams development driver Alex Lynn joined by Nicholas Latifi.
Lynn, 22, signed with the team for his debut GP2 season in 2015, having won the GP3 title the year before, and would take two race wins on his way to sixth overall.
"I am very happy to continue with DAMS after sharing so many extraordinary moments – including my first GP2 win – in my rookie season," Lynn said.
"Thanks to the team I improved all aspects of driving in 2015, especially my ability to manage a race distance. I am now better prepared than ever before and ready to fight for victory at each event.
"The target is to win the championship."
Latifi, 20, joined Formula Renault 3.5 in 2015 after a two-year stint in European F3 - and finished the campaign in 11th.
A four-time race winner in Ferrari's Florida Winter Series in 2014, he contested five GP2 rounds over the past two seasons, but didn't score any points.
He did all three days of the GP2 post-season test at Yas Marina and ended it with the quickest overall time.
"I have no doubt that we’ll need to dig even deeper when the season starts, as everyone will be doing the same thing to get the upper hand," Latifi said.
"With the help of the team and its GP2 championship-winning experience, I am going to have the best environment possible to develop myself as a driver and fight at the front for good results."
No place for Gasly
The announcement means that DAMS will be officially parting ways with Red Bull junior Pierre Gasly, who contested a rookie campaign in 2015 and finished level on points with Lynn.
The Frenchman, who is to keep his spot in the Red Bull programme, ran with Russian Time and Prema in post-season testing.
