Coletti was close to the podium in Monza

Strong weekend in Monza for Stefano Coletti, at the debut with Team Rapax in the last European round of the GP2 Series ahead of the season finale of Singapore.

After a promising free practice session where he ended eighth, the Monegasque did not manage to better his laptime in qualifying due to the traffic he was stuck in during the final attempt and ended in sixteenth place (1:32.675).

In the Feature Race Coletti did not give up and put in a character performance with one of his stunning recoveries that took made him climb all the way up to the eighth final place that was worth some more points for the classification and the pole position of the Sprint Race.

In the second race Stefano started fairly well but was second out of the first chicane where a light contact with a rival partially damaged the nose of his Dallara. Penalyzed on the fast sectors, Coletti defended himself from the attacks of rivals in the initial part of the race, keeping himself in fourth position.

In the final two laps he also made a move to attack for the podium but the compromised aerodynamics of his car did not allow the Rapax driver to get a concrete overtaking chance.

Stefano Coletti: "Analyzing the overall performance of the weekend I would say that, qualifying apart, we can be quite happy. I started on the right foot in free practice but things went differently in qualifying; in the Feature Race I recovered quite well though, setting also the fastest lap of the race which shows our potential.

In the Sprint Race the front wing damaged made me lose something in the fast corners and the fourth place was probably the best I could get".

The GP2 Series will be back on track next 23 September in Singapore.
