GP2 Series at the Paul Ricard HTTT: Final pre-season tests of 2007

The 2007 GP2 Series class started yesterday the final pre-season tests at the Paul Ricard HTTT. It was the last time for drivers and teams to work on the new evaluation of the car before the first race in Bahrein on April, 13th.

For the first test day, the 13 teams made data gathering exercises on the usual 3D track solution (3.853 km). Andreas Zuber (Isport International) set Thursday's best lap time in 01:12.812, without beating the all time GP2 Series record on this track of 01:12.547, set last year by Jose Maria Lopez.

After having discovered the 2A Paul Ricard HTTT track solution (4.087 km) last February, the 13 teams tried a new track solution during this second and final test session: the 2D short (3.586 km). Andreas Zuber set again the best lap time on this track solution in 01:09.713. The 2D Short track solution is very slow with the hairpin, the `Petit Beausset' and the North and South chicanes on the Mistral straight. The 2D Short solution allows teams to concentrate their work on the car balance in curbs and breaks.

During these 2-test days, teams had great weather conditions (sunny weather and maximal temperatures of 21°C) and completed over 14,200 km in 2 days.

The next GP2 Series test session at the Paul Ricard HTTT will take place on June, 19th and 20th.
