PODIUM JOY FOR BUEMI IN BARCELONA
Sebastien Buemi scored Trust Team Arden's maiden podium finish of the GP2 Series campaign with a strong drive to second place at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya.
Starting from the front row after his seventh place in yesterday's feature race, he was forced onto the grass shortly after the start -- as pole position qualifier Kamui Kobayashi (DAMS) defended his lead -- and that cost the Swiss driver a place to Romain Grosjean (ART). After that, he withstood race-long pressure from Giorgio Pantano (Racing Engineering)... and moved up to second when stewards handed Grosjean a drive-through penalty for making "more than one change of direction" while defending his lead from Kobayashi.
After starting 19th, Buemi's team-mate Yelmer Buurman made steady progress through the lower midfield and to finish an encouraging 10th.
Sebastien: "It made a good start, but Kobayashi put me on the grass so I lost a position to Grosjean. I was slow for the first few laps and was struggling to keep Pantano behind me, but after that I settled into a rhythm and got faster and faster. I benefited from Grosjean's penalty to move up to second -- and this is a fantastic result given the way our weekend began."
Yelmer: "At the start a car stalled a couple of rows in front of me -- I saw it very late and only just avoided it. I had to brake, too, which cost me a few places. I recovered some of them at Turn Four, where I took the outside line, but I then had to take to the grass to avoid Karun Chandhok's car, which was sitting in the middle of the road after a spin. That cost me more ground, but from there I managed to pass quite a few cars. I'm satisfied with 10th, but I know there is more to come."
