CARROLL MEETS THE KING OF SPAIN

Great Britain's Adam Carroll met King Juan Carlos I of Spain today but even the glamour and prestige of meeting royalty couldn't make up for a frustrating weekend of racing. The King visited Adam's Spanish Racing Engineering team and met with the drivers after this morning's race.

After a brief chat, the King had a look at the car which is sponsored by Telefonica and Repsol. "We had a brief discussion and I showed him the car and steering wheel and how it all worked. I actually asked if he would like to have a sit in the car but he said that he didn't think he would fit!" said the Carroll from Portadown in Northern Ireland. "The King is a lovely, very humble man who had a genuine interest in me and motor racing."

Unfortunately that is where the excitement started and ended this weekend for the 23 year old. After starting from 10th after a revised grid, Carroll moved up to 9th on the first corner but lost that place a lap later after getting boxed in. He was sitting in 10th until a gearbox problem caused him to drop back two places. "I had the problem a couple of laps earlier but it seemed okay until the final lap and it got stuck in gear and I lost two places. It was a disappointing end to a disappointing weekend".

Adam now looks forward to the next race in Monaco - the scene of last year's amazing victory. As the reigning champion round the famous streets, Carroll is hoping the luck of the Irish might accompany him on this trip!
