Gianmaria Bruni came up with his second pole position of the season in GP2 Series during the qualifying session for race one at the German circuit of Hockenheim. Second belonged to local card Timo Glock followed by Nelson A. Piquet.
Italian Bruni from Trident Racing clocked 1.22:588 when in the last ten minutes in today's qualifying which was enough to secure the front start for Saturday's race.
"It was a good lap. I did a very good first and last sector so I expected to be in the first two... you just never know what the other guys are doing. It was the best I could do and in the end it was three tenths faster, so I'm very happy", the polesitter explained.
Bruni`s last pole position in San Marino brings him nice memories as the former F1 racer won that race the following day.
Sharing the front row with Bruni will be Glock, who continued his good moment since he changed from BCN Motorsport to iSport International beginning with the British GP2 round.
"I'm second which means one guy is quicker than me and I can't be happy about that. I said from the beginning that I wanted to be on pole because Lopez beat me by two tenths in France and now Bruni beat me by three tenths. It's a good position for us though and I will try to win again", Glock stated.
The German racer set 1.22:910 to take second place as he did two weeks ago in Magny-Cours, where he later claimed the victory.
Piquet took a laptime of 1.22:928 for Piquet Sport and will have tomorrow a good chance to cut his gap in the championship with Lewis Hamilton as the Brazilean starts from third place and the British race slotted eighth on the grid.
"I'm happy. I did a very good first lap and it was close at the front. I lost some time on the scales and then I didn't really find a good space for my second attempt. But anyway I think Gimmi's lap was very good. I don't know if I could have gone quicker but my car was great", Piquet commented.
Another Latin American driver will be in the second row as Venezuelan Ernesto Viso put the other car of iSport in fourth place.
Fifth place had Giorgio Pantano, winner of sprint race in France, followed by Franck Perera, Lucas Di Grassi, Hamilton, Andreas Zuber and Alexandre Premat in top ten places.
