LOKES TAKES 1ST WIN, FAUZY NEXT TO THE POINTS WITH FANTASTIC 7TH PLACE FROM 12TH ON THE GRID.

Barcelona , 8th May 2005 -- Finally Lopez took his 1st win of the season a few miles away from is European home in Barcelona. Jose took a very good start and managed to pass Caroll and take the lead before 1st corner. Lopez had then to keep his position and reach the finish line, which he did perfectly although the safety car came in for a few laps in the middle of the race.

Jose-Maria Lopez : "I knew that the start was very important today and that could be the key to win the race. I passed Caroll on the outside and then the only thing to do was to drive the car with security. The car was a little bit better than yesterday but still hard to drive, especially in the last 8 laps. I am very happy for DAMS, we have been constant in the front since the beginning of the season, not the fastest but always in the top and now we have the result, to be regular will be the key in this category."

Today's race was the DAMS day as Fauzy brought to the team another great result with 7th position from 12th on the grid. Fairuz had an incredible start and jumped from 12th to 6th place coming in the 1st corner. Fauzy was going for points when safety car came in and reduced the gap between all cars. When the race started again, Fairuz managed to keep Rosberg behind until lap 14 when he locked up a wheel and lost his position.

Fairuz Fauzy : "The car in front of me stalled at the start, but I did not lift off any way because there was enough place to pass, my start was very good. Before the safety car I pushed to make a gap with the car behind me, but after that my tires started to wear. In the straight I was a little bit slower than Rosberg because I had more wing, so he could close up and passed me when I locked my wheel in the braking of corner 5. This 7th place gives me confidence for the following events, I had a problem Friday and I could not qualify and from last place Saturday the evolution through the weekend brings me near the points, obviously we could score points with a better qualifying Friday."

Jean-Paul Driot : "I am very proud of what did our 2 drivers today. Jose did a perfect job and comes back in the top of the championship ranking, Fairuz has shown today why we trust in him, hopefully he will not have any more reliability problems and should be in the pace for points in the next races."
