FIRST VICTORY FOR COLONI IN GP2, BRUNI SECOND IN THE STANDINGS
Barcelona - Gianmaria Bruni took his first GP2 victory on the Montmelò track in round two of GP2, proving to be one of the best drivers in this new international series.
Yesterday, the Coloni motorsport's driver had already stated his intentions seizing first row, and today fulfilled his task taking a great victory, which takes Bruni to second place in the standings. The young Roman driver made the most of a strong start, passing pole-sitter Speed off the line, and taking the lead. In a very tough race, in which only 13 drivers out of 24 took the chequed flag, Bruni drove faultlessy, rebuffing all of his follower's passing moves.
Unfortunately, the other Coloni's driver, Mathias Lauda, spun out and had to leave the race, taking, in the end, 16th place in the final classification. "We certainly did a very good job" said Bruni after the finish "Everything was perfect. Tomorrow I will start from the 8th spot, but I hope to gather some points anyway, and I'm sure the podium is within my reach".
Paolo Coloni was also very satisfied with a great victory. "I was delighted watching Gimmi drive so determined to win and I would like to thank everyone who helped in showing all our great potential. Now we have to think about Sunday's race, in which we will need to do our best to gain more points for the final classification. We greatly value having been able to win, already in the second round of GP2, with a totally new car. It's an important result, from which we understand that we can aim to final success in the championship".
