It was an eventful first race for Clivio in Barcelona with lots of overtaking but also two spins, the second of which ended his race five laps before the end where he had been running in 12th position.

From 15th position on the grid, Clivio made a strong start, pulling immediately up to 12th and gaining a further position to 11th by the end of the first lap. He was engaged in an on track battle with Rosberg and Pantano when on lap five he spun on entering turn 7 and went into the gravel, he rejoined the track but was then at the back of the field in 19th position.

Clivio came in for his pit stop on lap 17 and got new tyres. He was then able to start his attack up the field and was posting lap times equal to race leader Gianmaria Bruni. Clivio had pulled up to 12th place when on lap 34 late braking into turn 3 caused him to spin and this time he was unable to continue.

The race was dominated by Gianmaria Bruni who lead from the start. Bruni faced a challenge from polesitter Scott Speed but maintained his position to take victory. GP2 Series leader Heikki Kovalainen came in third.

Clivio:
"The car felt good today and I was able to really attack in the race, which was great. I got off to a good start but the spin on lap five meant I lost the advantage I had gained on the first laps as I found myself at the back of the field. After the pit stop with new tyres I was really able to push and make progress through the field. Unfortunately I braked a bit late into turn 3 and that was the end of my race. The car feels much better than in Imola so I am expecting a good race tomorrow."
