DUBAI, PRIVATE TESTING
Today the DAMS team wound up its first 2-day test session on the Dubai circuit with its 2 drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and Jerôme d'Ambrosio, in preparation for the GP2 Asia Championship. After a first morning during which the track was virtually unusable, the team's priority was to maximise its running time to learn the circuit for the first race weekend of the season on 25th/26th January at the same venue.
After the difficult conditions on Saturday the organisers decided to hold testing on the Dubai International circuit, which is a kilometre shorter than the main one.
Kamui Kobayashi worked through his car's set-up in a methodical fashion and ended the last half-day's testing in fourth place. Belgian Jerôme d'Ambrosio was not so lucky. He had very little track time today due to a technical problem linked to the gearbox. On Saturday afternoon he set the eighth-quickest time, though.
Now the team is concentrating on preparing its cars, which will take part in another 2-day test session on the Dubai circuit this coming week.
Kamui Kobayashi: "Despite limited running time on Saturday we managed to complete our technical programme and we've made good progress. On each run the car's set-up improved, as did the track conditions. I'm satisfied with my performance, and I'm looking forward to starting the next sessions at the same rhythm."
Jerôme d'Ambrosio: "I was quite familiar with the GP2 car, having driven it on the Paul Ricard circuit previously. Unfortunately, a technical problem put me out of action for most of the second day. I've done very little running over the two days and it's all rather frustrating. Our aim for the next session will be to make up for the time lost and do as many laps as possible. I took advantage of this session to hone my relationship with the team. On this side, it's been a positive couple of days."
