Managing director Firhat Mokhzani, in a telephone interview, said: "We are very happy as Luca was very competitive and could have even fought for a win. It is a good birthday present for Peter, but we analyse how we can do better in tomorrow's second race."
Filippi and team mate Alexander Rossi qualified fourth and 15th respectively for the first race. Filippi was just four hundredths of a second off pole-position in a very competitive session.
It was a good qualifying overall that equalled the team's best qualifying performance of the season. Rossi suffered mechanical problems and failed to finish the race.
