GP2 ASIA SERIES AL SAKHIR RACE REPORT

Frankie Provenzano had a positive and surprising GP2 debut at Al Sakhir, Bahrain, in the third round of the Asia Series. After a late resolution, the Italian driver based in Rome joined Trident Racing on Thursday, impressing the series' insiders and showing a quick attitude in learning a completely new car and racetrack. Frankie had his first contact in the short practice session, and constantly improved his laptimes through qualifying. After taking off from 24th, he swept 17th place right after the start, before ending up in 15th. On Race 2, he moved to 13th, before showing a good pace through the day and finishing in 15th again, right after setting his best mark on the last lap.

Frankie Provenzano

"I'm really proud of my debut. I hadn't raced in 4 months, since the last F,Master round at Monza, and I had a late call for Bahrain. Once in the car I tried to create the best possible feeling with the car and the racetrack, and I started lowering my laptimes and finding my right pace. I had two strong start in the races. In the first one, I maybe lost some time at the pit-stop which was a completely new thing to me, then in the second one I managed to put some kilometers behind. Despite the worn tires, I set my best lap of the week at the very end. That makes me confident for the next round..."
