BAMBER CONTINUES STRONG GP2 ASIA SERIES RUN IN BAHRAIN

Fast-rising young New Zealand racing driver Earl Bamber (My Q1-Meritus.Mahara) has continued his strong run in this season's GP2 Asia series, with a weekend best seventh place finish in the second race at the third round in Bahrain on Saturday.

With an 11th place in the first race on Friday the 18-year-old from Wanganui ended up seventh overall, an outstanding performance after a struggle to find a suitable car set up saw him qualify back in 15th position.

Despite that he made up four places in each race, to remain in the hunt for a spot in the top three in his debut season in the GP2 Asia series.

Describing his roller-coaster run he said of the first race;

"My start allowed me to make up a few positions and I established a reasonable pace and improved a lot."

And the second;

"I had a strong start and went to the outside in the first corner which was a good move and worked out. By mid-race I was fighting hard and Jerome D'Ambrosio who was quicker passed me on the straight. Overall I am happy. It is a good result to prepare us for the next race in Qatar."

Bamber now has a two week break before the fourth round of this year's GP2 Asia series at the Doha circuit in Qatar over the February 06/07 weekend.

The races at Bahrain were won by series points leader Kamui Kobayashi (Race 1) and Sergio Perez (Race 2).
