BARWA ADDAX TEAM CONFIRM MAX CHILTON AND LUIS RAZIA AS THEIR DRIVERS FOR THE ASIA SERIES 2009-10
Barwa Addax Team, as previously announced, has confirmed the signing of British driver Max Chilton for the Asia Series 2009-10. Brazilian driver, Luis Razia will be his team-mate and will drive for the Spanish team in the Asian GP2 championship.
Max Chilton is one of the more promising drivers on the scene and has recently competed in the British Formula Three Championship, finishing in a creditable fourth place overall. Max was the youngest driver to compete in the history of F3 at the tender age of 16. One of the best drivers of his generation will drive for the prestigious Barwa Addax Team, which gives him a great opportunity to make great progress in his desire to get into the top flight and drive in Formula 1. Chilton will compete in the eight rounds that make up the GP2 Asia Series this coming season.
Max Chilton: "Obviously I'm delighted to have the opportunity to compete in GP2 as it's an important step in my career. The successful Barwa Addax Team have given me a great opportunity to demonstrate what I can do in the higher categories. I can't wait to get going and compete for them in the first race in Abu-Dhabi."
Luiz Razia, has already shown what he can do at this level, having competed in recent GP2 Series championships. He also knows what it's like to win at this level after his victory in the Italian GP at the Monza circuit in the GP2 Main Series, including fastest lap time. His other victory at this level was at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain in the 2008-09 Asia Series. In the recent tests in Jerez he progressively improved on his lap times demonstrating that he and the team could make up a formidable combination and fight for the overall Asia Series championship. This championship could also be an important preparation for next season's GP2 Main Series in Europe which starts in Spring.
Luiz Razia; "I'm happy to see that the Barwa Addax race team has decided to join forces with me in the Asia Series. It shows me that they have faith in my abilities and it should put me in the right position to fight for race wins and ultimately for the title. I look forward to the Abu Dhabi race in particular. It is a brand new race circuit and it always poses a challenge to the drivers, and it's my first race with Barwa Addax. I also aim to impress the technical staff and Mr. Alexandre Agag in particular, in order to work on continuity with the Barwa Addax team possibly beyond the Asia Series."
Alejandro Agag "We are really delighted to welcome British driver, Max Chilton to the Barwa Addax Team, who will be driving for the team in the forthcoming GP2 Asia Series 2009-2010 and in all the tests leading up to the beginning of the championship. We firmly believe that he is a driver with a solid background despite his age, as he is still only 18 years old. We feel that this is the right step for the driver, not only in his development but also in his sporting career. We are hopeful that he will adapt to a class that is a genuine platform for drivers wanting to compete in Formula 1. There is little one can say about Luis Razia as nearly everyone is aware of the talent of this driver based on his recent performances. He has won races in both GP2 championships and we are convinced that this Asia Series could be very important for both driver and team. If we take into account Luis's progress in recent events we expect to be fighting for the championship."
