SERGIO PEREZ ON THE VERGE OF PODIUM POSITION. GOOD PERFORMANCE FROM GIEDO VAN DER GARDE.

BARWA ADDAX TEAM FULFILL OBJECTIVES.

There were fine races from the Barwa Addax Team drivers in today's second race at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Sergio Perez finished in a highly creditable fourth position, with Giedo Van der Garde finishing further back, after having collided with another driver when he was up amongst the leaders.

Sergio Perez made great progress from his twelfth position on the starting grid and after the first lap, he had moved up to ninth. He continued working his way up through the field and it wasn't long before he was in a points scoring position . Not satisfied with this, and after a rousing finish he crossed the chequered flag in fourth place. All of this despite having aerodynamic problems, after making contact with Kral in the early part of the race, which left part of a spoiler hanging on the right side of his car. Sergio not only produced a great fightback, but he also set a race rhythm that clearly puts him among the best drivers of the championship.

Giedo Van der Garde, started the race from a lowly 19th position, but from the beginning he started producing the same pace as the leaders. He clawed his way back to ninth place, a position he was able to control. In the last third race he tried to overtake a rival, in a last ditch effort to get in among the points, but was closed down at the apex of a bend as he tried to move inside. The contact between the two left Giedo with his front nose cone hanging off and he was forced to come into the pits to replace the damaged piece. He finished way back despite a fine effort.

Barwa Addax Team are more than satisfied with the course of events. The objective of giving the main event drivers the opportunity to experience the Yas Marina circuit for the first time has been a success. The race rhythm set by both drivers this weekend has been up there with the best in this class.

Sergio Perez: "I'm very happy to be competing again for the Barwa Addax Team. We've worked hard and developed the car this weekend and we've had very good results. I feel really motivated and I'm working really hard on my preparation to be ready for the GP2 season, because I really believe we have all the necessary tools to be successful. I hope everything goes well and we can be challenging for the title"

Giedo van der Garde: "It's a pity that my fightback came to very little after being blocked out by another driver in front. I wasn't able to show the rhythm I was capable of. Nevertheless, I'm happy because I've been able to learn a lot from the new circuit and we've managed to improve the car's performance progressively which has left me satisfied. I'm happy and comfortable with the car and the work carried out by the Barwa Addax Team".

The next event in the GP2 Asia Series will take place at the Sakhir circuit, in Bahrain on the 26th and 27th of February.
