ART GRAND PRIX LINE UP GP2 ASIA ABU DHABI 2009
ART Grand Prix are pleased to announce that Sam Bird and Marcus Ericsson will drive for the team in the upcoming testing session at the Abu Dhabi circuit this weekend ahead of the opening race of the GP2 Asia series that will get underway the following week. Sam and Marcus will also be ART Grand Prix drivers for the premiere on the Yas Marina circuit alongside the Formula One season finale. Sam Bird is currently contesting the F3 Euroseries and already has several podium finishes to his name. Thought of as one of the strongest runners in the discipline he will be a great match for Marcus Ericsson, who has already tested for the team at Jerez recently where he topped the timesheets on the final day of running.
Sam Bird: "It's a fantastic opportunity and great privilege and needless to say I am extremely excited and cant wait to drive for ART Grand Prix. Thanks to the team for giving me this great opportunity."
Marcus Ericsson: "After my title in Japan this is the perfect springboard to come back to Europe and be part of some of the greatest series and teams. I could not hope for a better team to start up in the GP2 Series than ART Grand Prix. The test we did in Jerez went really well. To race with one of the most successful teams is also a lot of pressure but if you can't deal with it you just do another job and I'm sure ART Grand Prix will do everything they can to make me feel comfortable, like in Spain two weeks ago."
Frederic Vasseur: "Sam is a driver that we've been following for a few years and we get along really well with him, even though he is one of our main rivals in the F3 EuroSeries. He is also one of the strongest drivers of the series as his many podiums can testify to. Marcus is a talented young driver who has done well in several different championships, both in Europe and in Japan. He impressed ART Grand Prix during his first test in the GP2 Series at Jerez where he clocked the fastest time of the third day. With Sam and Marcus I have no doubt we have all we need to shine in Abu Dhabi for the GP2 Asia season opener."
