A disappointing Friday qualifying left Alexander P17 for Saturdays GP2 Feature Race in Barcelona last weekend. Maximizing tyres and finding that key balance is very important in GP2 and after a difficult qualifying session Caterham Racing worked hard to find that sweet spot leading into the Round 3 races.

"Alexander had a stunning opening lap, moving from seventeenth to eleventh and then pitted early for the hard tyre on lap six which allowed him to gain an advantage over the cars around him. He then drove faultlessly, bringing the car home in an impressive sixth place which gave him the added bonus of starting the Sunday sprint race from third on the grid.

Team Manager Phill Spencer "We are very pleased for Alexander who finished sixth having started from seventeenth on the grid. The guys did a fantastic job, posting the fastest pit stop for the second race in a row which enabled Alexander to make up a few positions which he maintained as he nursed his tyres to the end of the race. It is great to have another points scoring finish and we hope he can make a good start from the front row tomorrow."

Alexander Rossi "My start was decent, but most importantly I was happy with my first lap, picking up six positions. After qualifying we decided to be brave with the strategy, pitting as early as possible. This was a difficult call but we knew if we could gain enough in the first part of the race and manage tyre wear, we could hang on at the end. The team did an amazing job in my pit stop which helped me move forward in the race."

Alexander Rossi had high hopes for the race starting from the clean side of the grid in third position.

Alexander was amongst the top seven cars, a group that ran nose to tail for the majority of the race and, having stayed out of trouble and driving consistently, Alexander finally cross the finish line in sixth.

Alexander Rossi "I had one of my best starts in terms of getting off the line but Stefano got an even better one and I lost out on a couple of places.

"In the opening laps the tyres took too long to come in and there was very little grip. I managed them as well as I could, expecting the car to improve later in the race but it didn't. We seemed to have slightly higher degradation than the other cars today which is something we will look at before the next race.

"There was a lot of mayhem that happened in the last few laps and I was glad to avoid it and bring the car home, scoring some points for myself and the team. Now I look forward to Monaco which is definitely my favourite race of the year."

Chief Engineer Humphrey Corbett "What a race! Alexander lost a few places at the start but remained in a point scoring position, biding his time. Alexander unfortunately flat spotted his tyres while attempting to pass Cecotto. Once that happens it's very difficult for the tyres to come back. We still have work to do on our race pace but we now look ahead to Monaco for a good race."
