GP2 qualifying session with a red flag out on Alexander’s quickest lap, left him to abort his flying lap that would have put in toward the front of the grid for Saturday's feature race.

Starting 14th and .65 seconds off pole, Alexander fought hard despite being hit on lap one to finish the race in 8th place, scoring points for the team and earning himself pole position for the start of the sprint race. After a difficult start off the grid for Sunday’s race, Alexander managed to fight back in the short race, running in 4th position. As rain fell over the Italian circuit, Alexander drove superbly to overtake all the cars in front to reach 2nd position.

Consistently setting the fastest laps, Alexander showed true form and determination and was just a fraction behind race leader Adrain Quaife-Hobbs as the chequered flag fell.

Alexander Rossi: "The feature race was very challenging, however I was very pleased with the result and starting from pole for the sprint race is always a good position to be in.

“After I was hit at turn two and was out in the gravel I lost many positions and thought the race was pretty much over. I was luckily on the option tyre and was able to pit early and then it was about pushing one hundred percent all the way. It is good to have scored more points for the team.”

“In regards to Sunday's sprint race, I am very pleased for the team as the car was great and another podium is a brilliant reward.

“I had the worst start of the season at the worst possible time and from there I knew I had to take some risks to make back the positions. When the rain came I took the opportunity as I knew the others would be conservative and it paid off as I passed Bird at the exit of turn 2 and then Leal.

“From there I tried hard to catch Adrian but he made no mistakes and there was nothing I could do. I’m pleased I was able to recover from the start, but it’s a little bitter sweet to not have won.”
