ADDAX TEAM SIGN MEXICAN DRIVER PABLO SANCHEZ FOR GP3 2010 SEASON
Addax Team have confirmed the signing of TELMEX driver Pablo Sanchez Lopez for the inaugural GP3 Series 2010. As with the GP2, this new class will run alongside the Formula 1, racing on the same circuits and dates in the European events of the elite class.
In the maiden season of this new event, teams and drivers will be starting from square one so they will have to develop the car, which has a Dallara chassis with Renault engines, supplied by their Viry plant. The 4 cylinder engine is 2000cc, turbo powered, capable of generating up to 280 brake horse power. The gearbox is a Hewland design and the tyres are supplied by Pirelli, which means a welcome return to elite motor racing for the Italian firm.
The GP3 Series championship this season will be made up of eight rounds, with two races each racing weekend. Seven of these rounds will coincide with the Formula 1 World Championship and the GP2 Series. Apart from guaranteeing a solid base for this new event, it also means that young drivers will be in contact with superior classes and at the same time, will be observed and evaluated by teams, whose main objective will be to guide them to a future in Formula 1.
The pre-season tests will take place at the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet, France on the 3rd and 4th of March and at the Montmelo circuit in Barcelona, on the 13th and 14th of April.
The season will start with the first race at Montmelo, Barcelona, Spain on the 9th of May and will finish at the Monza circuit in Italy on the 12th of September. There will only be ten teams competing, which the organization has chosen from a great number of teams which had applied for the possibility of competing in this new event. The championship therefore, starts from a solid base. Addax Team is the only latin representative thanks to their success in GP2 in recent years.
The Addax Team is based in Valencia, Spain. It is owned by Spanish businessman Alejandro Agag. Since he took over the team there has been continuous success, with the team finishing in the top three for the constructor's title in the last three years, in both GP2 Main Series and GP2 Asia. The team claimed the GP2 Main Series title in 2008 and they have guided 3 out of the 4 drivers in their ranks to Formula 1 status. Vitaly Petrov, Romain Grosjean and Lucas di Grassi.
