ADDAX TEAM START THE GP2 SEASON IN TURKEY.
CHARLES PIC QUALIFIES, 7th AND GIEDO VAN DER GARDE, 12th
The 2011 GP2 Series got under way after the free practice and qualifications, which took place today at Istanbul Park circuit in Turkey. The Barwa Addax Team drivers Charles Pic and Giedo van der Garde finished 7th and 12th respectively in the qualification session for tomorrow’s first race.
Both drivers were a bit disappointed with the results in qualifying for tomorrow’s starting grid in a session that was so full of incidents that the red flag appeared on no less than three occasions. Giedo complained about handling problems on his new car while Charles was impeded by Phillippi, when he blocked him on his fastest lap in the last sector and he was left with only one more opportunity to improve on his best lap time.
Nevertheless, the Barwa Addax Team show signs of confidence for tomorrow’s race. They know they have the quality and experience to get things right on race day. The set up for the race should cause less headaches than trying to prepare for one quick lap time, as the car is still in the development phase.
Tomorrow, Saturday, the first of the two races programmed for this weekend will take place over 32 laps, covering a distance of 170,608 Kilometres. The race starts at 3.40 hrs local time.
