Bridgestone approaches their final race weekend in the GP2 Series with the 2010 GP2 season ending in Abu Dhabi, alongside Formula One, on 12-14 November.

The 5.554km Yas Marina Circuit opened the 2009-2010 GP2 Asia Series and will now close what has been another highly entertaining GP2 main series. Bridgestone will supply its medium specification Potenza racing slick for the GP2 finale in Abu Dhabi, which was the compound used in the GP2 Asia Series.

With mainly medium to slow speed corners, traction is a key factor in terms of car set-up at this anti- clockwise venue. However, there are also two high speed sections to the track with hard braking zones going into turns eight and eleven. This will require the drivers to preserve their tyres during the 31 and 22 lap races respectively.

Current iSport International teammates Oliver Turvey and Davide Valsecchi both won races on Bridgestone's medium specification dry tyre in Abu Dhabi earlier this year, as part of the GP2 Asia Series.

Quote from Hirohide Hamashima - Director of Bridgestone Motorsport Tyre Development

"The Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi is an interesting venue with two fast sections and many slow to medium speed corners. At the beginning of the weekend the track surface will be very dirty because of sand, with the surface condition and grip improving with each session run. There are good opportunities here for overtaking, which will make it an exciting circuit for the GP2 Series. It is also a familiar track for some of the GP2 drivers as two rounds of the 2009-2010 GP2 Asia Series were held there. As supplied for the GP2 Asia races, Bridgestone will again provide teams with the medium compound dry tyre which is suited to the range of temperatures expected in Abu Dhabi. It will be the first time that the GP2 main series races at this track, using a different chassis to that used in the GP2 Asia Series."

Bridgestone finish on a high: 125 races in the GP2 Series

Bridgestone's last GP2 Series race, in Abu Dhabi on Sunday 14 November, will also be their 125th race as official partners to the championship.

Having been the sole tyre supplier to the GP2 Series for the last six years, Bridgestone has worked with many young drivers, a number of whom have graduated to the FIA Formula One World Championship where they have continued to race on Bridgestone Potenza tyres.

In addition to the main series, Bridgestone has also supported the GP2 Asia Series since 2008, backing three seasons of the Asia based championship which has traditionally provided GP2 drivers with extra track time ahead of the full GP2 season.

Heading into Bridgestone's final Formula One and GP2 race weekend, Mr Hiroshi Yasukawa, Director of Bridgestone Motorsport, reflects on the success of the Bridgestone-backed GP2 Series.

Quote from Mr Hiroshi Yasukawa - Director of Bridgestone Motorsport

"Bridgestone has had the honour of being an official partner to the GP2 Series for the last six years.

"We have been able to showcase our tyre technology through this highly-regarded championship and are proud to have seen so many talents graduate from GP2 to Formula One including this season's official F1 drivers; Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton, Timo Glock, Heikki Kovalainen, Sebastien Buemi, Kamui Kobayashi, Nico H lkenberg, Vitaly Petrov, Lucas di Grassi, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok. Giorgio Pantano, Scott Speed, Gianmaria Bruni, Kazuki Nakajima, Nelson Piquet and Romain Grosjean are also well known names that have raced in both series on Bridgestone tyres.

"Congratulations to this year's GP2 Champion Pastor Maldonado for an outstanding season with Rapax.

"Bridgestone's involvement in GP2 has been an invaluable experience for both the company and our staff. Our participation in both Formula One and GP2 has been exceptionally beneficial to the development of our Potenza tyre, with the knowledge gained by our Bridgestone engineers through our racing programme being transferred to the production of our road tyres.

"We wish the GP2 Series continued success and we thank the championship founders Bernie Ecclestone, Bruno Michel and the GP2 Series staff for the prestigious partnership that Bridgestone has enjoyed since 2005."
