A weekend to forget in Nurburgring for the Barwa Addax Team

Jake Rosenzweig and Rio Haryanto have not put up the kind of performances they would have liked and not added to their points tally in the GP2 Series.

Barwa Addax Team had a weekend that they will be hoping to forget here at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany. Jake Rosenzweig and Rio Haryanto have not put up the kind of performances they would have liked and have come away from this event at the German circuit without having added to their points tally in the GP2 Series.

Jake Rosenzweig had a weekend that was full of bad luck and unfortunate incidents. He did not set good times in free practice and qualifiers, which meant he had to start the first race from the back of the starting grid. However, after some good work, intelligent strategy and fighting spirit from Jake, he was affected by a penalty drive through for speeding in the pit lane ,which subsequently left him among the back markers and without any possibility whatsoever of getting any results this weekend.

He started the second and shorter sprint race on Sunday, as in the first, from the back of the grid. Nevertheless, he drove a very good race, in spite of his poor starting position, and managed to climb to a mid table position among the main peloton of drivers until Leal crashed into him when braking into the chicane, forcing him off the track. His car was damaged by the collision, so little he could do from then on to make any more progress.

Rio Haryanto, made good progress throughout the whole weekend but without the deserved result. He started with a discreet 21st position in free practice. He improved a little in qualification in 20th, but he continues being affected by the continuous cold track conditions in qualification.

It is very unusual such temperatures in Silverstone and Nurburgring at the beginning of summer. With so much traffic on the circuit there was little he could do to shine, despite the risk of a magnificent pit stop on the first lap where he was able to change tyres. Even though he dropped down to 23rd position, he was able to make up ground and finished the race 18th.

The second race was another from the back of the grid and he was clearly making ground into the first corner when he was caught up in the middle of a peloton mix up which left him last but one in the race. From then on he made a spectacular fight back and finished in a creditable 14th position in the main group and only 3 seconds behind the 9th placed driver.

Barwa Addax Team go away from Germany after some good work done but with no points to show for it. Haryanto and Rosenzweig have worked hard and well but have had very little fortune in certain small details such as sanctions. It could be said that they tried hard but with very little luck at the end of the day.

In Budapest they should have another opportunity to demonstrate who is who at this level. It is hoped that the temperature will be normal for this time of year. We will see on the 27th and 28th of July.
