GP2 series champion Lewis Hamilton has added the Autosport Rookie of the Year award to his ever growing trophy cabinet. We asked you to vote for him... and vote you did.
Lewis Hamilton, the 2006 GP2 series champion, was last night awarded the autosport.com Rookie of the Year award at the coveted Autosport Awards in London. The Briton, who will make the step up to Formula One next season with McLaren was delighted with his award, which was voted for by readers of www.autosport.com.
In accepting his trophy, he paid tribute to the GP2 series and the skills his championship year had taught him.
"GP2 was a fantastic class for me," he said. "Without the opportunity to show what I could do to the F1 teams, I wouldn't be where I am today."
"Races like Turkey show that with determination and commitment, and if you never give up, you can achieve anything."
And with his confidence as high as ever, Lewis is ready for his newest and greatest challenge, for not only does he make the stpe up to Formula One in 2007, he does so as team-mate to the world champion Fernando Alonso.
"We have four months to prepare," Lewis continued. "Being teammate to Fernando will be a challenge, but he will bring a lot to the team and I will learn a lot from him."
