Daytona Ferrari World Finals: Kauffmann takes dramatic Trofeo Pirelli title
In a dramatic final race of Ferrari Finali Mondiali at Daytona, Carlos Kauffmann secured the Trofeo Pirelli world title after both Octane 126 drivers fell by the wayside.
Kauffmann scored victory in the second winner-takes-all race of the day, after a late sequence of events allowed the race win to swing his way.
Just a minute and a half from the end of the 35-minute race, Bjorn Grossmann seemed to have victory in the bag. But a late tire failure while leading gave the honors to Kauffmann.
Minutes before Grossmann's tire failure, teammate Fabio Leimer had to retire from second place for the exact same reason.
This late drama meant that Wei Lu finished in second place ahead of Sam Smeeth.
NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace rounded out the weekend of his racing comeback in a strong 10th place.
