Bittersweet race in San Jose for Philip Major.

Formula BMW USA Round 9, San Jose, California. 29th July 2006 -- The streets are a tough place; you have to fight to survive and there ain't no love in the heart of the city.

Formula BMW USA driver Philip Major fought for all he was worth on the downtown streets of San Jose, muscling his way past the competition with a bruising performance before he was shown that cold heart by lady luck.

Major was passing cars at every turn in the early laps, making breathtaking maneuvers on a track that is extremely hard to overtake at.

The tough love came at turn six. The Canadian driver was well inside when his rival turned in too late, collecting the Major's sidepod and spinning him into the wall.

He limped back to the pits but it was game over for Philip, who was forced to spectate for the remainder of the race. However, this did have its compensations when a pair of grid-girls took pity on the luckless teenager, and decided to show him a little of the love that the streets had denied him.

"Don't get me wrong," Major smiled after his brush with the pit-lane cuties, "I'd have preferred to be out there still racing, but they certainly didn't spoil my afternoon!"

Round 10 of the FBMWUSA will start at 3.50pm on July 30th following the San Jose Grand Prix.
