Maxime Pelletier : difficult weekend in Utah
Miller Motorsports Park, May 22 2007. -- Maxime Pelletier , the 16-year old driver from Montreal, had his share of problems last weekend when he took part in the first Formula BMW USA double header of the 2007 season at the Miller Motorsports Park racing facility near Salt Lake City. Staring from 14th place in the first round, he managed to climb within a few lasp in 10th place before being hit by another competitor, only to complete the race in 17th with an ailing single seater. In the second round, he took the start this time from the eighth row and finished in 9th place, getting his first points this season although he did not have a good race setup on his car.
"What we expected did not happen, said the young man, and I am very disappointed. I had worked very hard with my engineer for this first program but we were never able to get a good race car. I feel like I'm going over the same situation I encountered last year when we struggled to find speed every time in qualifying and had to catch up from behing in every round. I am pretty desperate at this time and I will think about my future in this series. I think I showed on a few occasions I could race with those guys but I need a better environment and legitimate chances to win. Once we reach that goal, if I have to face the same situation, than I will seriously wonder if I 'm in the right league. But first I must look for a better team environment."
Next stop : Montreal
For Maxime Pelletier, the next program bears a very special meaning since the series will be part of the undercard of the Canadian Grand Prix at the famous Gilles-Villeneuve facility in Montreal. " It's always very emotional to race at home, claims Pelletier. I can almost hear the Formula One cars from my backyard. I was among the best rookies last year and enjoyed myself very much. I think I can use my experience on this race track to make it in the Top 5 this year. But first we'll find a winning attitude."
Maxime will take to the track again at the Canadian Grand Prix from June 8 to 10 for the second double header of the season. You may his web site at www.maximepelletier.com .
