Now 3rd in F-BMW USA, Pelletier riding the wave at Elkhart Lake
Maxime Pelletier will carry high optimism this coming weekend when he tackles the sixth Formula BMW USA ladder series double header of the season. Steering the FB02 #10 HBR Motorsports single seater on the superb Elkhart Lake Road America race track, the Montreal 16-year old driver has scored points in every outing since he joined his new team, with six Top 5 and four podiums. Pelletier now stands third in the season points and admits he aims for second place at the end of the calendar. The schedule starts early in this Champ Car program and Pelletier wants to use every lap to setup his machine.
"Those two rounds will be very important, claims Pelletier. We cannot have a bad outing until the end of the season and I must use all the track time to work on my car setup. Road America is a fast circuit every driver wants to challenge and I have to work hard from lap one to work with the team and get a fast car by Thursday afternoon."
"I know I was docked some points because of the Montreal race. In San Jose, I knew I would be two points away from second place but I wind up eight points behind. In Montreal, the winner completed 14 laps and I was on my eighth lap when the race ended. I figure that's 51% of the distance. But I can live with that. What amazes me is that it took seven races and two and a half months to find it out! I put this behind me and I will just put my head down and concentrate on winning my first race in the series. This is the best way to reach my goals and thank HBR for their hard work in the last four programs."
A complete five-day schedule
Race schedule will start early with a full test day on Wednesday. Then the race program will have a free practice Thursday morning from 10:40 to 11:10. A first qualifying session will take place on the same day from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. It will be Friday for the second qualifying session from 11:45 to 12:15. Reds will go out for the start of the first race Saturday morning at 10:50 and the second round Sunday at 10:30. "Wednesday will be the best day to work on car setup, concludes Maxime. We must have a strong car by Thursday afternoon."
Maxime Pelletier is in his second year in the North American premier ladder series Formula BMW USA after being nominated Junior driver last year. He is racing with the Austrian HBR Motorsports team. Road America is the sixth of seven double header programs in the 2007 schedule. Pelletier is third in the 2007 standings only 8 points away from second.
