Last podium for Pelletier at Mosport
Montreal, August 28th , 2007. -- Maxime Pelletier wanted to go out with class last weekend in the Formula BMW USA last double header at Mosport Park, but things did not materialize the way he wanted: he finished ninth in the first round last Saturday in a race where rain played lead role. After taking the start on slick tires, he experienced communication problems with his crew and did not pit soon enough to have rain tires installed. In the second race on Sunday, he was on second row and move up quickly into third, where he finally finished. Pelletier completes the 14-round calendar in fourth place overall with five podiums.
"When you look back at your season, mentionned slowly Pelletier, you find the moments when you were good and those where your game wasn't up to par with the rest of the field. Take Saturday, there was a downpour in the opening lap and it took one lap too many to pit in because we had a radio communication problem. I rejoined the track some 40 seconds behind the pack and my day was done: I could only come back to ninth place. Then Sunday: I started from second row and move up in third shortly after. I kept the pace and tried to sqeeze in for second on a few occasions but couldn't make it without compromising my race and Esteban's (Gutierrez). That was clean racing and I took third with no regrets. I finish fourth in the standings and I feel I have some unfinished business in this series, considering I'm only 16. Future will tell if I stay at this level or if I need to try my skills at another series."
Back in Europe for BMW finals
Maxime Pelletier will keep on training on a regular basis since he will take part in the last two rounds of the Formula BMW Adac series at Hockenheim Ring on October 26 to 28 with HBR Motorsports. He will also travel to Valencia for the World Finale from November 22 to 25. "By then, I will be in a perfect mood for racing. I like the track in Spain and think I can make it to the final round on Sunday."
Maxime Pelletier just completed his second year in the North American premier ladder series Formula BMW USA after being nominated Junior driver last year. He was racing with the Austrian HBR Motorsports team. Pelletier finished fourth in the 2007 standings. His future plans will be announced later but different avenues are being considered in Europe and America.
