Lacroix launches Formula BMW season
Unveiling of 2005 FB2 car
Laval, April 5. -- More than 200 guests, dignitaries and sponsors gathered in a Montreal hotel for the official season launch of Kevin Lacroix in the Formula BMW USA and the presentation of his road racing FB2 single seater. A very colorful evening where sponsors and partners showed their support and their trust towards the 16-year-old rookie driver from St-Eustache, Quebec. A number of racing fans were present and Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières Friends took the opportunity to present their annual racing scholarship to Lacroix.
"I'm so thankful to my parents, my sponsors and all those who helped me in my eight karting years, said Kevin. Tonight is a definitely a landmark in my career and I think this gets me more nervous than starting a big race from pole position! This year, I have a very strong team and the test days have been very positive so far."
"We look up to young men like Kevin to become ambassadors of our community, spoke the Mayor of St-Eustache, Claude Carignan. I am always impressed when I read the name of our city next to Kevin's name when I read a paper or search on the Internet, especially with Kevin racing all across North America."
"We like the poise, dedication and determination of this young man, added Jacques Landreville, president of Uni-Select, the largest independent wholesaler aftermarket network in Canada. We know he is going to succeed and we want to assure him of our total support in the coming years."
Formula BMW: white, blue and shiny
Series ruling permits only official BMW white and blue colors on the FB2, since Lacroix is a 2005 scholar. However, great care was given in the preparation of the car and the positioning of sponsors logos. On hand were the directors of Raybestos, Tenneco, Pennzoil and SKF Motorsport to unveil the BMW race machine. The team recently announced they would work with Toronto-based AIM Motorsport and that the car would be prepared in their own shop in St-Eustache by engineer Yvan Turcotte.
More test days before Laguna Seca
Two more testing sessions will take place in the coming weeks at Virginia International Raceway and Carolina Motorsport Park with all the registered BMW teams on location. Kevin will also fly to Huntsville, Alabama to the N.A.S.A. training camp for a complete physical evaluation. "Formula BMW USA is a real ladder series and they have concern for every aspect of the program, says a smiling Lacroix. Now that this gala evening is behind us, we can get down to serious things, at least something I can manage, racing!"
The 2005 schedule is comprised of seven double-header weekends. Formula BMW will be part of the undercard at the Canadian and U.S. Grand Prix.
This season, Kevin Lacroix will be sponsored by Uni-Select aftermarket network, SKF MotorSports, Raybestos, Tenneco, Pennzoil, Auto Parts Plus and Lacroix Auto Parts. His web site can be visited at www.kevinlacroix.com .
