Kevin Lacroix wins first BMW race at Laguna Seca
Laguna Seca, April 30. -- Kevin Lacroix jumped into the lead at the very first turn, never looked back and went on to win his very first career open-wheel race in the Formula BMW USA championship at Laguna Seca. Starting from fourth place, the 16-year old rookie from St-Eustache, Quebec had a perfect start and overtook pole sitter Richard Philippe and two other cars to ease his way up in the lead.
While he stretched the field to a confortable three-second margin in front, a battle was going on between four cars in hard pursuit. At the checkered flag, American Reed Stevens was second while Belgium Maxime Soulet completed the podium.
'My car was fast enough to keep me in the lead and the fight behind was furious between three or four cars. I'm very happy and my team deserves much credit. Now, I have to put this behind me because I will start again from second row tomorrow and will have to pass Richard (Philippe) and Maxime (Soulet). I just love that race track and long to start the second race.'
Second race will start tomorrow at 3 :35 pm (PT). Kevin Lacroix drives the Uni-Select BMW car prepared by AIM Motorsport. He is also sponsored by SKF MotorSports, Raybestos, Tenneco, Pennzoil and Auto Parts Plus. His web site may be reached at www.kevinlacroix.com .
