A Remarkable week-end for Petriello
Montreal, Quebec, May 20, 2007 -- Jeffrey Petriello arrived in Salt Lake City with the intention of grasping a podium finish. He did just that as he finished his first race in the Formula BMW series in second place.
"It was an incredible week-end," explained Petriello. After clinching the third best time during the two first qualifying sessions of the week-end, Petriello could not ask for more. "My most difficult task was to stay focused during the first final without making any mistakes. I surprised Esteban Gutierrez, as I passed him on the exterior of the turn grasping second place from him and holding on until I passed the finish line," explains Petriello with pride. "The pass was risky but I got the results I wanted," he explains.
Race 2: Difficult
Petriello finished sixth during the second most difficult race of his career so far. "At the start, I was able to hold on to third place without difficulty and I stayed close to the cars ahead, but after the fourth lap, where I carried out my fastest time, I lost control without really understanding why. I slipped into sixth place and I realized that my front left tire was soft. It was difficult to drive the car but I was determined to keep sixth place in order to collect the maximum of points for the championship before arriving to Montreal. You should have seen the number of cars that arrived after me as I finished the race. " he concluded.
In spite of the circumstances of his second race, Petriello is satisfied of his two performances and will now concentrate on the next races which will be held at the time of the Canadian Grand Prix.
Petriello took part in the Formula BMW racing school, thanks to the energetic drink 24 Power (www.24power.ca) and SRA karting.
