2006 BMW scholarship for driver Jeffrey Petriello?
After being selected for the first time last August on the international track in Valencia, Spain, Quebec driver Jeffrey Petriello was chosen by the Formula BMW USA series to compete in the final on September 18th and 19th in Spain. This final race includes 15 of the most talented drivers in North America, five of which will have the opportunity to win a scholarship for $40 000 US.
Petriello was selected out of 40 drivers, after passing the first important stages of the Formula BMW racing school. He will leave on Friday for the second time in less than two months in order to compete in the final in Valencia, Spain.
"I am very satisfied with the knowledge and experience I have acquired through the Formula BMW racing school during my first visit in Spain, explains 2005 karting vice-champion Petriello. Having constant lap times that are in the top three without going off-track is very important when becoming a candidate," explains Petriello.
Effectively, taking part in the support and development program for young drivers in this series is very demanding. "I know that I have to be a good student and they can teach me more than I can show them in a single-seater (laughing). I will be present to learn but also to win one of the five scholarships for 2007. It's an extraordinary opportunity," explains Petriello.
"After 10 years in karting, I had to make a move. I arrived in Spain last August with my experience from Quebec and after I saw the series for the first time I knew I had to take a chance. I am aware of the hard work it requires to drive a car and succeed in racing. I am waiting for my opportunity," explains Petriello.
