James Hinchcliffe Looks to 'FLY' at the Airport Circuit
TORONTO, ON. (JUNE 29, 2004) Oakville, ON resident and Rookie of the Year points leader James Hinchcliffe (Franczak Enterprises / AIM Autosport / #56), is looking forward to rounds seven and eight in the Formula BMW USA Championship series. Running in conjunction with the Champ Car World Series for the first time in series history, the young Canadian will look to garner his first victory in his rookie season.
After leaving Indianapolis with two more top five finishes, the 17-year-old Oakville Trafalgar graduate has been the most consistent driver in the series garnering six top five finishes in six events. Hinchcliffe will look to continue his recent success and consistency at the Airport course. "Cleveland is unlike any other track we have hit this year. It is also unlike any track in Europe, so I think that the advantage the European teams have had the last few races will be erased giving us the best opportunity to win. I have total faith that the AIM Autosport car can make it into victory lane this weekend".
The former multi time karting champion currently sits second in the overall series championship trailing his closest rival by a mere 15 points. Even though Hinchcliffe is one of the younger drivers in the series, he is in charge of the BMW Rookie Cup Championship as he is outpacing the competitive group by 22 points. "It is good to be leading rookie points, but we want the overall championship so we must close the gap this weekend. We lost valuable points to Andreas (Wirth) in Indy and we want to make up for that here".
The Formula BMW USA Championship will hit the 10-turn 2.106 mile circuit on Friday morning with qualifying sessions taking place that afternoon. Races will take place Saturday and Sunday afternoon as Hinchcliffe will look to leave his mark in the state of Ohio.
