Front Royal, Virginia, November 25, 2004. -- Gelles Racing will renew in 2005 the agreement it had this year with the engineering school of the University Tuiuti do Parana in Curitiba, Brazil. UTP has an enrollment exceeding 20,000 students and is the top engineering school in Brazil. The agreement states that one of the best students in mechanical engineering will spend a full racing season with Gelles Racing as part of his internship prior to graduation. 2004 elected student was Lucas Souza and the name of the selected candidate will be revealed shortly.
"We are very pleased to welcome again a top student from UTP, says team owner Bob Gelles. Our chief engineer, Rodolfo Perdomo, is an associate teacher at this famous school of engineering, and having one of the best students from this school is very exciting. Lolo has worked in Europe and America with many racing teams, including successful years as a team owner, including Formula One: no wonder a student is proud to be working with such a fine tutor. Brazil has consistently given motorsport gifted drivers, we like to think its engineers are equally talented."
"We are honored to have an association with Gelles Racing, one of the premier racing teams in America, declares Dr. Carlos Eduardo Rangel Santos, President of UTP University. It provides an excellent opportunity for our students to fully integrate their class room experience and translate them into real racing world engineer experiences".
Lucas Souza: 2004 coop student
The 2004 internship award, Lucas Souza, is finishing his term and will return to Brazil to complete his fourth year at UTP. "What I have learned at Gelles this year is incredible, says the young man. You really discover your trade with people like this. Preparing race cars is one thing, but mastering the complexity of race setup is a real art. My UTP program required that I wrote reports every week:and they would show how much I learned this year. Thanks to Bob Gelles, my friend and mentor Lolo, Trygve and all the Gelles crew for the great support they have been. The 2005 candidate coming in is a lucky guy."
"We will dearly miss Lucas as he became a member of the Gelles Racing family in 2004, follows Bob Gelles, and we wish him the best is his future endeavors. Lucas graduates at UTP next year and I know he will have a bright, successful future."
